    Crystal Tower is one of the newer developments in Gulf Shores and sits about 1.3 miles from where Hwy 59 dead-ends at The Hangout. The most distinctive feature of this complex is the blue crosswalk that connects the building to the beach. Crystal Tower actually sits on the north side of West Beach Blvd, but is connected to the beach via a skywalk that leads to a beach-side pool area. Due to the fact that Crystal Tower sits across the street from the beach, the prices remain very affordable for condos of this age and quality.

    The parking lot at Crystal Tower is one of the largest parking lots, if not the largest, along the entire Gulf Coast. I’ve never seen, or heard of, there ever being a full parking lot, which is something that cannot be said about any other condo along the beach. There is a large portico that leads directly into the beautiful lobby, but even more convenient are the 3 elevators that open up directly onto the parking lot. This makes loading and unloading your car a snap.

    The lobby is hotel-like quality, with marble floors, and a security desk. It offers direct views of both the indoor and outdoor pools as well as the fitness center. Also off the lobby are bathrooms and a vending area, perfect for quick access to the pool without having to go all the way back to your room.

    Each room is accessed from the open walkways along the north side of the building which allows for full views of the beach from the interior. Each unit is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with approximately 1042 sq ft, which is quite large for this area. Immediately upon entering the unit there is a large closet meant for storing beach gear; again, this is something that was well thought out. So many other units have this same closet on the balcony which means you’re dragging sandy beach toys all through the condo.

    Being across from the beach means limited views, but depending upon the unit some views are terrific. Generally, anything on the 5th floor or above will have good to great views. The same can be said about units located toward the middle of the building as well since there are 2 buildings across the street that can obstruct direct views of the beach.

    On the 2nd floor is the access to the crosswalk, which is air conditioned and makes crossing the street a breeze. Regardless if you’re carrying children or dragging coolers and wagons, this crosswalk makes quick work of getting to the beach. Once on the beach side, an elevator takes you down to the paved pool area, so there’s no need for concern when pulling wheeled carts and having to navigate stairs.

    The beach-side pool area is fantastic. There’s ample lounging space, a huge pool, hot tub, and a lazy river. At the rear of the pool area is the beach access with 4 water hoses for spraying off sand, flip-flop storage, a composite walkway leading to the beach, and an additional water hose at the end.

    All in all, this is one of my favorite condos. The price points are fantastic, the walkway totally makes up for the fact that you’re not beach-side, you never have to worry about parking spots, the indoor pool and fitness center are both quality, and the HOA dues are much lower than many lesser complexes that sell for higher prices with fewer amenities.
